Under the general supervision of the Kapolei Terminal Manager coordinates, directs and executes all operations in terminal area(s) assigned.  Supervises, coordinates and directs activities of assigned unit(s), facilities, and/or related equipment on shift in accordance with operating plans and instructions. Responsible for maintenance and repairs, personnel issues, enforcement of operating standards and work performance, compliance with all environmental regulations, and company policies.

Desired competencies include accuracy, attention to detail, proven record of risk management and in-depth knowledge of the Kapolei Terminal equipment and processes.  The ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven track record as a motivated, self-starter who can work on multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment.  Incumbent is expected to have sound personnel functions, cost control, safety and fire prevention, Operating Standards, IBEW Articles of Agreement and knowledge of all IES policies.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of ten years of refinery/terminal experience in equipment knowledge, safety and environmental rules and regulations and principles of operational discipline and loss prevention.
  • A minimum of five years previous experience as a Head Operator and/or progressive special assignment duties in the coordination of project related work activities.
  • Safety: Must have excellent record.  No recordable injuries in the previous two years and no more than one recordable injury in the previous 5 years.  Demonstrated support and participation in the Loss Prevention System process.
  • Ability to uphold to strict ethical standards: integrity, objectivity, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills, including editing and proofreading.
  • Strong sense of team spirit and ability to transfer it to others.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to evaluate information and exercise good judgment in making decisions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to commit to The Island Way (IES core values of): Kina’ole, Aloha, Lokahi, and Ho’ohana.
  • Pass background check including periodic job-related physical abilities testing as required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within sixty days of hire.
  • This is a safety sensitive position and random drug testing is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean abstract.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES*:

  • Supervises, coordinates and directs activities of assigned units, facilities, and/or related equipment on shift in accordance with operating plans and instructions.
  • Acts in unusual or emergency situations to correct and immediately advises others who will be affected, including the Supervisor.
  • Supervises the removal of equipment from service and its preparation and cleanup for maintenance work. Checks to be sure the environment is safe, and hazards are minimized.  Checks equipment for satisfactory work completion and supervises the return of equipment to service.
  • Directs crew in carrying out a continuous program of servicing and preventative maintenance throughout his/her area by enforcement of lubrication schedules, following good housekeeping practices, making minor corrective adjustments to equipment and machinery, etc.
  • Assures the economical use of utilities, materials, tools, operating services and supplies and minimizes the loss and replacement.
  • Explains and enforces all management approved rules, standards, procedures, governmental requirements and IES policies to personnel to ensure Operators are following consistently and acting safely as appropriate.
  • Evaluates Operator performance, counsels Operators and takes the lead on managing performance improvement planning objectives. Responsible for and actively participates in the training of assigned personnel.  Administers time keeping and lost time program.
  • Manages People – Oversees training of assigned personnel, time keeping and lost time program. Makes self-available to staff; Provides regular performance feedback; Develops subordinates’ personal skills sets and encourages development and growth; Solicits and applies customer feedback (internal and external); Fosters quality focus in others; Improves processes, products and services.; Continually works to improve supervisory skills. Leads by example.  Responsible for annual performance reviews of staff.
  • Teamwork – Works effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions; and respecting the diversity of the IES workforce in actions, words, and deeds.
  • Champions safety, reliability and incident and injury free operations. Maintains commitment to a high standard of safety, complies with all safety laws and IES safety policies/rules, and reports actual and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel to further IES core value of safety. As a supervisor, trains, mentors and coaches’ employees regarding safe work practices and documentation. Reports any unsafe or hazardous condition and initiates corrective action.
  • Monitors and manages Timesheet verification and leave approvals in conjunction with Payroll and Human Resources.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Updates and maintains operating standards, emergency procedures, training materials, and any other supervisory tools as assigned by the Terminal Manager.
  • Performs a variety of special assignments as directed.
  • As directed, serves as Operations Training Supervisor. Directs classroom and on-the-job training of Operator Trainees.  Assists in interviewing candidates and hiring new Operators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • This position in-frequently works in an outdoor environment under various weather conditions including but not limited to; rain, wind, sunlight, heat, changes in temperature and strong odors.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of times on hard and uneven
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment as necessary. Vision and depth perception are required.
  • Ability to bend, carry, push, pull, stoop, squat, twist and kneel in sometimes narrow spaces.
  • Ability to work unaccompanied at a rapid work pace for extended shifts of 12 hours or more, as assigned.

 

Compensation

PAY & BENEFITS:
Island Energy Services offers a competitive salary that commensurate with qualifications and experience. The hiring annualized salary range for this position is $101,000 to $140,000.
