Senior Human Resources Manager

Under the general direction of the VP Human Resources, the Senior HR Manager (SRHRM) is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management through day-to-day interaction.  IES is looking for an experienced and self-directed HR Professional who can build and sustain HR capacity in support of company initiatives.  The position will lead and support department  functions in collaboration with key stakeholders, employees and external contacts.  The SRHRM position will deliver value-added HR services that drive operational efficiency and employee engagement, maintain a high level of business acumen, critical thinking and sensitivity to employee needs.

Required competencies include exceptional supervisory skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and a proven ability to interact with all levels of the organization with a high degree of professionalism.  The ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven track record as a motivated, self-starter who can work on multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment.  Incumbent is expected to have sound knowledge of the SHRM Competency Model, Human Resources Information Systems, Learning Management Systems, and Microsoft Office Suite programs. Prior relevant experience in energy or industrial companies are preferred.  Union negotiations experience is highly desirable.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, including a minimum of seven years of experience as an HR Manager\Director. Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and execution of new programs and initiatives.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field.
  3. SHRM-SCP\CP or SPHR\PHR certification is required.
  4. Sound knowledge and experience in the SHRM Competency Model.
  5. Organizational Project Management experience.
  6. Proven experience in organizational change and succession planning.

Desired Skills

  1. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite skills, including editing and proofreading. Significant experience in Excel with data management, analysis and presentation of management reports.
  2. Comfortable working in a 24/7 work environment in an atmosphere of constant process improvement and change management.
  3. Union experience in industrial setting.
  4. HRIS software experience.

  4. Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within sixty days of hire.

  6. Willingness to devote the time as needed to meet project and task deadlines.
  7. Willingness to maintain or increase skills.

Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  1. Partner and lead with HR Team members and key stakeholders on a variety of strategic initiatives including employee relations and engagement, payroll and benefits, talent acquisition, professional development, succession planning and other HR programs and processes in compliance with Federal, State and local requirements. Lead and implement various programs utilizing SWOT analysis, focus groups, and HR best practices to ensure execution of HR programs are communicated to the workforce with efficiency and consistency in mind.
  2. Manage and oversee Downstream leave and disability program (FMLA\HFLL\TDI\STD\LTD\WC) including employee relations and outreach, disability administration, communications with supervisor and return to work processing.
  1. Provide support and mentoring to HR Team members, Management and other staff when complex, specialized and sensitive questions\issues arise. Conduct follow-up discussions including; investigations, union relations and employee coaching\counseling.
  1. Employee Relations. Meet and engage Downstream employees on a regular basis through open communications and proactive employee follow-up.
  1. Manage Professional Development Program for Downstream employees. This may include:  one on one coaching, research and implementation of specific training and employee follow-up. Work with management to remain abreast of changes in laws, regulations and procedure updates.
  1. Responsible for Payroll Administration in support of Downstream and Retail payroll processing, Merit and Bonus Programs and HRIS systems management. Provide back-up support and assist with review of processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll occurs. Responsible for understanding and interpreting Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  1. Manage and oversee Downstream Random Drug Testing Program, Open Enrollment, Benefits Administration and Rewards and Recognition projects. In partnership with the HR Team, develop HR department guidelines and procedures to support organizational needs.   Manage compliance and audit activities as required (employee benefits, 401K Audit, Workers Compensation, Affirmative Action, and other audits as required).
  1.   1. Supports safety, reliability and incident and injury free operations. Maintains commitment to a high standard of safety, complies with all safety laws and IES safety policies\rules, and reports actual and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisor and management personnel to further IES core value of safety.

Other Duties

  1. In the absence of the VP Human Resources, manage and oversee HR functions.
  2. Lead and execute HR Project Management initiatives.
  3. Perform tasks to serve as backup for other staff in their absence. Tasks may include:  Payroll processing, Report processing, Employee Engagement and other HR Department support.
  4. Performs other duties consistent with the scope of the position.
